The start of the 2020 season was exciting in New Forest Golf Club. The Winter League was contested by a record number of members and the ensuing presentation on the final day ran smoothly with over 50 members attending. Both Men’s and Ladies committees had been tirelessly working in the background over the previous few months to produce a fully sponsored calendar of competitions for 2020. All inter club competitions were about to kick off and after the performance of certain teams in 2019, there was a growing anticipation of what was to come. The Captains drive in was scheduled to take place on the 15th of March, also with a record number of almost 80 members booked on the time sheet. The correct decision was made to postpone the event. In the 10 days before restrictions were put in place the golf course was as busy as ever with everyone adhering to the guidelines. The lock down has been in effect since the 25th of March and will be lifted on the 18th of May. A total of 8 weeks will have passed before golf can resume and no doubt the remainder of this year will feel strange. This has had a major impact on our club not only for members but also for golf groups and societies, many have had to change their plans but we hope to welcome them all in the future. The management of New Forest have continued to look forward and plan to the future in the hope that once play resumes the golf course will be in pristine condition.
Firstly from all the staff and members of our club, a thank you to John Cunningham and his family for supporting the club and staff during these uncertain times.
A special thank you to course superintendent Donal Shine and the team of green keepers for their work during this lock down.
Finally and most importantly, a thank you to the members both new and existing. During a time such as this a club needs their members more than ever. Thank you for your continued support. I look forward to seeing you all in the coming weeks.
